Frank Richard Spencer, auxiliary military bishop of the U.S.A. for Europe and Asia, presented the challenges and possibilities of military pastoral care in the U.S.A, which is primarily understood as pastoral care for young adults. Accordingly, socio-cultural changes in the environment of the young soldiers also have to bring about a change in the mindset on the part of those carrying out pastoral care. In his speech, he addressed the different types of religiousness among young adults. In his opinion, military pastoral care, too, has to be offered in various shapes in order to be in a position to meet the requirements of those receiving its support. Mr. Spencer emphasised that military pastors ought to be role models for young soldiers.
