Our System

CITIZENS IN UNIFORM

In times of peace, the Austrian Armed Forces comprise professional soldiers, further employees and conscripts. The task force organisation also includes militia soldiers.

The Armed Forces are divided into the air force, landbased forces, special forces and cyber forces.

READY RESERVE – CITIZENS IN UNIFORM

Most of the time, ready-reserve soldiers go about their civilian jobs and lives. While part of the Austrian Armed Forces, they do not perform military tasks outside recalls and operations. They may be issued uniform and equipment items for personal storage and are, under certain conditions, authorised to wear their uniform also outside recalls and operations.

WHO IS IN THE READY RESERVE?

Ready-reserve soldiers are men and women who have completed their national or training service and continue to be entrusted with tasks in the operational organisation of the Austrian Armed Forces. As officers, NCOs, or enlisted soldiers, they constitute an important component of our defence system.

Their military activities on top of their civilian jobs and lives contribute substantially to the integration of the Austrian Armed Forces within our society.

WHAT CAN I DO IN THE READY RESERVE?

There are many options: take part in recalls to train to protect and assist, attend military training courses that are recognised in civilian life, and, not least, find yourself a second professional field.
